Currently still technically listed as a "tropical storm," Hurricane Isaac's path is a trending topic online and on Twitter this morning as it bares down on the Gulf Coast of the U.S. Isaac is expected to hit landfall sometime around the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on Wednesday.
While this topic is sensitive in nature, you could take the opportunity to use it as a jumping-off point in your own industry to educate folks on what to do in an emergency. For example, if you're a mom blogger, do you have an emergency baby kit? What should it include? Landscapers: how can gardeners prepare their plants for a disaster? How can you bring your plants back to life after a flood or storm? Public relations: What are the basics of recovering from a PR disaster? Nutritionists: What kinds of foods should be in your three-day disaster and emergency kits that give the most nutrition?
Listen up, y'all: Snookie had her baby. This is hot search news this morning. Mom bloggers will have an especially good time with this one, since there's an opportunity to talk all things baby. What motherly advice would you give to Snookie? Can you bust any myths about parenting for new moms? What are the top things new moms should know but probably don't? What are some of the top products she should use? This would be a great time to use any slideshow functionality to your blog since you can feature product images and get more pageviews!
Don't think that just cause you're not a mom blogger, that you can't cover this topic. Writers of food, PR, fashion, technology, home design, and more can get in on this goodness — what kinds of foods should Snookie eat for optimum health and energy post-baby? What kinds of life lessons can people learn from the party girl-turned mom? Can you design a look for new moms that is both fashionable and comfortable? What apps can she use to help manage her feeding schedules and life overall as a busy mom?
Neil Armstrong passed away on Saturday, but his "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" quote will forever live on in the hearts of Americans. He lived a quiet life after being the most famous man to step foot on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and there is plenty to be said about passion, drive, reaching for the stars (literally and figuratively), space, the unknown, and the technology that helped get him to the moon.

Burning Man is a week-long event that has been held in the Black Rock desert of Nevada since 1986. It gets its name from the burning of the giant wooden effigy, which happens on Saturday night. The purpose of Burning Man? Well, it's not quite clear. But there's heavy emphasis on community, art, absurdity, and shenanigans.
There's lots to cover here, so I recommend you tackle the Burning Man webpage, do some research and see how it can be covered from your angles.
This Wednesday marks the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. What have we learned since then? A lot of the topics mentioned above in the Hurricane Isaac portion can be repeated here.
First Day of School
Kids are heading back to school for the Fall and there's lots to talk about. Even if you aren't in the "kid business," you can teach folks the basics about your topic. My Schoolin series is a good example. How can you educate people about your topic? Not only is this great for themed content, but it will be highly searchable for a long time to come.
